Ruard Ganzevoort and Agnes Abuom key-speakers at opening event
We are glad to announce that World Council of Churches moderator Agnes Abuom and Dean of the Faculty of Religion and Theology at the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam Ruard Ganzevoort will be two of the key - speakers during our opening ceremony.
Abuom comes from Kenia and is the first woman and the first African in the position of World Council of Churchers moderator. She has served before as the Africa president for the WCC from 1999 to 2006. She is also a development consultant serving both Kenyan and international organizations coordinating social action programmes for religious and civil society across Africa. Her areas of work include economic justice, peace and reconciliation. The theme of her speech will be: 'The Ecumenical Pilgrimage of Justice and Peace. A Programmatic Approach to Peace & Justice'.
Ganzevoort was Professor Practilcal Theology at the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. In 2016 he was appointed as Dean of the Faculty of Religion and Theology. His research focused on the lived religion which he describes as: "how people shape their relationship to the sacred and how they relate to the tradition(s) from which they draw." He worked on projects in the field of religion and trauma, sexual diversity, spiritual care, and religion in popular culture. Since june 2011 he is also a member of the Upper Chamber of the Dutch national parliament for the Green party GroenLinks. The theme of his speech will be: Trauma-Coping as Peace-Building. The Role of Trauma Research in Peacebuilding Education.
